Bridges: Our Legacy in Stone
Author: David T. Cottingham
Publisher: Washington County Board of County Commissioners (1977)
Once there were more than thirty stone bridges in Washington County, Maryland, whose graceful arches carried man to the neighboring shore. Now only twenty-four remain. Those twenty-four are the subject of this publication. Six bridges have been destroyed either by the hands of man or by nature and as many more have been mutilated to accommodate modern traffic. This booklet has photographs and a brief history of each bridge. There also is a map.
